Hi,

Please try with TrapViewer tool available with AdventNet's MibBrowser. In order to receive the v3 traps you have to add the respective user in the MibBrowser Settings. Check whether you are able to receive traps or not in AdventNet Trapviewer. Then try with your manager application and please send us the packets captured by snooping the network while you are listening for traps with NetCool tool.

I did try using the AdventNet TrapViewer tool and the traps are recieved correctly in that tool. I neglected to mention that in my first post. I have used both a noAuthNoPriv user and an AuthNoPriv user and with both ways the traps are recieved just fine. That's why I am confused about this.

I tried a test with a free MIBBrowser tool from iReasoning and it does not recieve the traps either, but does give me an error that says "Cannot read SNMP inform: engine ID not provided." Maybe that is a clue, but I'm not sure what that means.

I will get a copy of the network packet that gets sent to NetCool and post it.

Here is the snoop output from 2 traps sent from our server. I sent the traps at the same time to my local AdvenNet Trap Viewer and it recieved the traps just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it is something they need to fix in the NetCool configuration, then I would like to be able to know that for sure.

I am also using netcool product. For snmp details, I configured using third party tools. But the netcool is not receving traps. So, I am having doubt whether i am using correct probe in netcool.

So, Please tell me which probe you are using to get the trap in netcool. I am using mttrapd probe. How you configured the probe....Thank you

Our hosting center actually uses NetCool, so I am not familiar with that product. I have sent the issue on to them.
I also forwarded them your post about which probe to use in NetCool. If they figure something out I will post it here or have them post it.

Thanks to AdventNet support, we resolved this issue with NetCool recieving traps.

I needed to encode the engineID in my SNMP agent as follows:

Then start the NetCool trap receiver tool with engineID as 0x31323334353637383930

Then NetCool was able to receive the traps from our application.
