Please go through the below link for making AdventNetAgent as subagent to windows agent.

You need not start the agent from Run.(bat/sh).You start your application to start the agent.Normally by default it will be started in port 8001.Now according to your configuaration i.e agent will be started in which ever port you have configured in your application.

Snmp.conf file as mentioned in the instructions in above link can be changed according to your requirement i.e the port in which Adventnet Agent is running and the oid to be registered.

well, main problem, that agent does not cooperate with windows master agent as subagent, persists. I tried to follow your registration guide step by step, only at step, where I should run file run.bat, I'm running application agent is part of. Still, in MIB Browser on port 161, where master agent operates, I'm getting nothing, but on port 8001 I can still get right values. Shouldn't it work somehow like this?:

1. I'm getting right values on agent's port (8001)
2. I register agent as subagent to windows agent
3. through port (161) of master agent now I can get, what I could on subagent's port (8001)
4. subagent's port (8001) does not return anything from the moment of registration

Can you please check snmp.conf file where the subagents details should be registered.You have to give the correct oid to be registered and the port value.

Please send us the snmp.conf file and the mib which you are using to create the subagent(AdventNet Agent).

just a small correction, line DLL_ROOT_MIB_OID=.1.3.6.1.4.2 - it was just my last try to test, if changes in snmp.conf invoke some reactions(negative - they don't), and I forgot to rewrite it back. The real line in my conf file looks like this:

DLL_ROOT_MIB_OID=.1.3.6.1.4.1

I ran to a problem with windows master agent. I'm getting descriptions and statuses from port 8001 in right format, but through port 161 of windows master agent descriptions are returned in hexadecimal form. Do you know how to make windows master agent to return them in String format?

please do not consider my previous question, this occured in iReasoning MIB Browser, your Browser does show it in String form.

But still, sometimes I get a mysterious AgentRuntimeException. I was unable to define exactly, when this exception is thrown, I can not reproduce it, it just sometimes shows up itself. Agent is running fine, but when this exception is thrown, nothing else then restarting all services helps

You will get this exception when the port (i.e the port in which the agent is started) is already in use.

when ever you get this exception please check the port and then start the agent.

yes, it was that. For everybody experiencing this exception, it can be solved by usage of DatagramSocket class and hard port closing.
