Hello
I have two inquiries.

1. I have developed some maps for some specific managed objects that I have developed. When I discover some instances of that Managed Object, I want to show the number in the Tree, in a format like this : "Map-Name[5]".
I want the number to be shown in front of the map name in the Tree.(here is [5])
Is there a way fulfill this requirement?

2. I have developed some services in C# that are running (.exe format) as a windows service. I want to monitor this user developed service and to be able to run, stop and restart them.
I studied the developer guide and came to two conclusions.
First : run an SNMP agent in the same host for that service and develop start and stop service in the agent.
Second : make use of webnms jmx agent. Unfortunately this JMX WebNMS agent is not discussed in a clear manner and I could not understand if this jmx agent could be used or not.

What would you suggest for application monitoring requirement?

Hi,

It seems you do not answer to the question asked by some users in specific.

I want to extend my last question about application monitoring. Is there any provision to extend the application monitoring feature pack for some other custom applications? (I mean discovery, status polling and data collection). I tried to do that but I have some defficulties with data collection.

Hi,

1. To achieve your requirement of adding a tree node whenever an object gets added to the database with the name of the object set for the tree node, you need to write a topo listener class which will be notified every time an object is added to the database. The topo listener class should implement the TopoActionListener interface. In the update(event) method of the listener, you can use the methods of NmsTreeAPI to add a tree node for the object added to the database and to delete the tree node when the object is removed from the database. 2. To start or stop any services running in a machine from WebNMS, you need to know the commands that can be used to start or stop the service. In WebNMS, you can design your own UI or have a process which can be used to start/stop the service. The RunCmd class can be used to execute a command in the machine.

For example,

RunCmd rc = new RunCmd("ls");
rc.run();

In the above example, the "ls" command will list the files present in the <NMS_Home> directory. Like wise, you can use the command required to start or stop any service by specifying the same in the RunCmd constructor.
